MEET THE TRAINER

AMANDA HANSON, TRAINING DIRECTOR
Professional Member of the International
Association of Canine Professionals

Professional Trainer for over 10 years specializing in family pets, shelter pups, and working dogs.

In addition to working with pets and adoptable shelter dogs, Amanda has trained dogs in AKC Competition, IPO, Ring Sports, Tracking/Search & Rescue, Therapy, Service, Personal Protection, and Police k9 applications.

She is also dedicated to giving back to the community and works with a variety of non-profits including local animal shelters, rescues, and schools.  Amanda has volunteered to teach prison inmates how to become dog trainers so they may train and rehabilitate adoptable dogs as part of their own rehabilitation.  She continues to advocate for and volunteer with programs that help dogs and people in the local community.

While donating her time to evaluate shelter dogs and determine working potential for service, police or sport dogs, Amanda decided to start her own non-profit Shelter Dogs With Jobs to help these homeless working dogs get the training and placement necessary to be successful. The mission of Shelter Dogs with Jobs is to to save, train, and place homeless working dogs in forever homes with careers as patrol, detection, service, therapy or search & rescue dogs.

SDWJ supports other dog related 501c3s by helping with high drive dogs who are not easily adoptable as pets and also support a variety of needs/non-profits in the human community by placing the dogs in a role of public service.

In her free time, Amanda trains her personal dogs to compete in Mondio Ring and volunteer for Search and Rescue.

TRAINING PHILOSOPHY

To The Rescue offers private, custom tailored, training for the whole family geared towards an effortless, enjoyable relationship where the dog happily meets your expectations while their natural abilities and instincts are fulfilled in a fun, appropriate context. Balanced training methods are used in order to give the dog all the information they need to be successful. We develop a style of training that suits the handler’s needs, including handlers with injuries or disabilities. Whether the dog belongs to one person or a large family, everyone involved is given a clear understanding of their skills and responsibilities to make training a success. Every dog is an individual and there is not just one way to train, so the best method is chosen based on the dogs needs and owner’s expectations. The dog is evaluated and trained holistically with the cooperation of veterinarians, canine nutrition experts, and other professionals who may help training efforts and ensure the dog is happy, balanced, and fulfilling its purpose.

“Dogs are born knowing exactly what they want to do: eat, scratch, roll in disgusting stuff, sniff and squabble with other dogs, roam, sleep, have sex. Little of this is what we want them to do, of course. We ask them to sit, stay, smell pleasant, practice abstinence, and be accommodating.”
